After reading the book Who sank the boat? we tried an experiment.
It does not matter what order the animals went in the boat.
So....... Who sank the boat? All of them! Try this at home.

Science experiments, week 10

What would happen if we added baking soda to a glass of water with lemon juice and sugar?
The sugar dissolved but when we added the baking soda there was a reaction!
Like in the volcano experiment there were bubbles.
What caused this to happen? Try it at home.

Science experiments, week 9

Refraction is when the light changes the way things look.
Look how the pencil looks put in water.

Science experiments, week 8

What would happen when a ruler was put into a jar of water?
Look what did happen!
The glass jar and water acted like a magnifying glass.
This meant that the numbers looked bigger.

Science experiments, week 7

We wanted to know which ice cube would melt the fastest.
We put ice cubes in different places.
After a while we checked to see what was happening. We discovered that warmth is what makes ice melt.

Science experiments, week 5

What will happen when we put sultanas in lemonade?
We thought: nothing; the sultanas would float or sink; it would go up.
It was exciting because the sultanas went up and down. They looked like they were diving.

Science experiments, week 4

What will happen when we mix water, paint and baking soda in a container and then add vinegar?

Potato person

Look what happened to the potato!
It is a bit like the story The Potato People by Pamela Allen.

Science experiments, term 2 week 2

What would happen if we put oil in water?
The oil floated on top of the water.
When the jar was shaken the liquid turned white.
Now we are going to see what will happen when we leave the jar.
What do you think?

Over the last few weeks roots have sprouted.
What will happen over the holidays?

Science experiments

Mrs Hoeberigs brought this potato to school.
She has put sticks in it so that it will not go right into the jar.
What do you think is going to happen?
We will watch over the next few weeks.

Science experiments

How can you tell if an egg is old or fresh?
We put the eggs in water.
The older egg floated more because air is in the shell.

Science experiment, week 4

What happens when a balloon is blown up?
What happens when the air is let out?
Try this at home with your family.
Remember to use words like deflated, inflated, expelled, projected.

Floating and sinking

Our science experiment today was to design a shape that would float.
We tried different shapes like flat, sphere and long. Did they float?
Alicia was the first to discover and make a shape that floated.
Try this at home, just get some play dough. What other shapes can you make?

Science experiments

What would happen when a few drops of food colouring was added to water?
The red food colouring looked like it had exploded in the water.
Finally all the water turned red.
What would happen if you put green food colouring in the water?

Science experiments

We wanted to know what would happen when a marble was rolled and hit another marble.
There were some very good predictions.
Try this at home and talk about it with your family.

Science experiments, week 1

We wanted to know which piece of paper would fall to the floor first.
It was important to drop both pieces at the same time from the same height.
You could try this at home with your family.  Make a guess and then test it.
