Film Festival

Learning about the letter J

This week we have been learning about the letter j.
We know how to write it, what sound it makes and words beginning with it.
So we made blue jelly, it was yummy.

Niue language week

The whole school shared what we have been learning about Niue culture and language.
Room 1 explained that the yellow is for the sunshine,  the Union Jack is like in the New Zealand flag, the 4 little stars are the Southern Cross, and the big star in the blue circle is the island in the water.

Bees

Mrs Pedersen brought a dead bumble bee to school so we have been talking and writing about bees.
Today we looked at some honey comb and then tasted the sweet, sticky honey.
Not everyone enjoyed tasting it.
Honey is very good for you and we need to take care of the bees.

Shake Out Day 2019

We have been practicing what to do if there is an earthquake during the year.
Today all over New Zealand people showed what you need to do to keep safe during an earthquake.

We were like turtles under the tables.
You can practice with your family at home.

Science experiments

How do you make butter?
We discovered how to make butter with cream and salt.
After shaking the jar for a while it turned into whipped cream.
Then we kept shaking and finally it was butter.
This was how people made butter before you could buy it in the shops.

Tongan Language Week

As part of our learning about Tonga, we made Tongan flags.
We shared our knowledge at the celebration assembly.
Did you know that the cross is because Tonga is a Christian country and the red  represents the blood of Christ?

Mr Reid found a dead weta and we have been learning about them.
From all the information that we learnt we have made a mistake footprint sentence.

Today we tested out some magnets and what they do to each other.
It was strange as one way they stuck together and when we turned them over they pushed away from each other .

Hip hop, week 7

This week was our last session.
We put the 2 dances together to make a whole dance.
As a thank you to Caitlin we gave her a card we made.
We can perform the dance at assembly.

Hip hop, week 4

After a warm up, Caitlin took us through some more moves for our dance.

Kiwi Can, week 4

Kiwi Can was a lot of fun this week. We are talking about emotions.
Mr Mac tried to make us laugh, it was hard not to laugh. Luke and Pele were very good at the game. Sakura got a certificate for great participation.
We keep learning different skills to help us be great kiwis.

Today we learnt about being reliable.
In the game Minefields we had to trust our leader to safely guide us as we had our eyes closed.

If you are wearing the glasses you are only allowed to ask questions that have yes or no answers.

Room 1 takes school assembly

On Monday room 1 took the school assembly.
Some of us had to lead the National Anthem,  school song and prayer, or introduce speakers.
We shared a song and some other information about butterflies and caterpillars.
We all did very well and feel proud of ourselves.

Snake in the grass was a fun warm up game.
Afterwards we had to work in pairs being responsible for moving a precious egg, really a ball. We had to work together so that we would not drop it.

Being responsible

Kiwi Can are teaching us to be responsible.
This means looking after things and people.
Look at Princess being responsible and helping to tie a shoe lace.

Get Set Go week 4

We were allowed to select an object to throw and catch.
To catch properly you need to get your hands like a nest and use your eyes to watch.
Have a go at this at home and get a friend to join in.

Blowing noses

Winter is coming. To help us keep healthy it is important to know how to blow your nose correctly.
Get a tissue and hold it over your nose.
Do 5 blows in to the tissue.
Wipe your nose and put the tissue in a rubbish bin.
