The real Gingerbread man

We had to hold on tight to the Gingerbread men in case they ran away.
Yum they were delicious!

Daffodil Day

Today is Daffodil Day.
All the learners made a daffodil to put on the word HOPE.
This is hope for the researchers to find a cure for cancer.
We are proudly wearing a daffodil because we donated a gold coin to the Cancer Society.

Gingerbread man

Why didn't the Gingerbread Man swim across the river?
We now know why!
Look what happened to the gingernut biscuit when it was put in the water.
It became soft, squishy,  gooey,  slimy, disgusting and yucky.
Is that why we sometimes dunk hard biscuits in our drinks?

Poetry recital

Well done to everyone for learning a poem.
Jose, Nikaiyah and Delina recited their poems in front of the school and parents.

Tuis

There is a lot of activity in the cherry tree across the road from our school.
Everyday more and more tuis are visiting the tree to get the sweet nectar.
Look out for tuis in the spring. They have a lovely song to listen to as well.

Stick modelling

Look how we created the bridge, the goat and the troll under the bridge.
Can you see the grumpy troll or the brave billy goat?

The Three Billy Goats Gruff.

We were all actors today and told the story by being the characters in the story.
The biggest billy goat was the bravest and butted the troll into the river.
Look at our scary troll faces.

Three Billy Goats Gruff

We hope that you never meet a troll like in the Three 3 Goats Gruff.
You could be brave like the biggest troll though.

Today's session was all about under arm throwing.

It is important to aim before throwing.

Farewell to our Taiwanese friends

Hunter and Kevin have finished their visit to our school.
They have been part of our classes to see how we learn in New Zealand.
We sang for them and the prefects gave them some gifts.
Hunter and Kevin told us about their stay. Also that they go to school a lot longer than we do and study more subjects.
Maybe one day you will be able to visit Taiwan.

Get Set Go

We continued with balancing today.
To balance you need to use your eyes, use your arms like a plane and keep your head still.
Next we played pirates. If you get your leg cut you have get a high five to be released.

Visitors from Taiwan in room1.

Today we had Hunter and Kevin in our room.
They are learning English so we read our readers to them.

Things in the kitchen

Today we had to guess what Mrs Pedersen had in her bag from her kitchen.
The clues were: it can fit in the bag; it has to be plugged in; it does not get hot.
What is it? We guessed by looking at all the photos.
It is a food processor.
The gingernut biscuit was 'hard like a rock' said Chrislyn.
BUT look what the food processor did.
'It is crumbs' said Leroy.

Well done to everyone who raced and especially those who got a placing.

They are here for a week to improve their English and learn about New Zealand.

Learning the haka

Today we started learning the haka.
Miss Riley was teaching us the words and actions.

Kahurangi Maori Dance Theatre

A visit from the Kahurangi Maori Dance Theatre was so exciting.
They told us some myths and legends through dance and song.
We watched them use poi and tiaha.
The piupiu made a swishing sound.

Balancing

This is our first session of Get Set Go.
Our warm up game was responding to words like fire, earthquake,  tsunami and volcano.
We needed to respond in the correct way.
Then on to different ways to balance.
We can practice these skills before next week.

A foggy morning

The fog was so thick this morning that it was strange at school.
When we went out the front of the school we could not even see Mount Wellington!
What had happened to it?
