Writing

                          Learning to write new words.

We learn how to write the words we read everyday by writing them using different coloured pens.
Have you tried doing this at home? Here is a challenge. How many words can you write and then read?

Welcome to Room 1 in 2016

We are the new learners in Room 1.

Watch us during the year as we become Better Than Before in everything we do.

Daily Fitness-we start each day full of energy

Jump Jam to music gets us moving and ready for learning.

            The Duffy Show

Duffy loves to read, just like we do. Duffy travels i his time machine to help save his elderly neighbour's dad so she can learn to read at school. We are very lucky to be a Duffy School so that we can have our own books at home.

                   Swimming Lessons

For the first six weeks we went swimming every day. We know how to be safe near water. Look how we can float on our fronts and backs and use flutter boards.

Family and whanau came to watch what we have learnt. Everybody had new swimming skills to show.

                5 + a day and Healthy Eating

Sugar in Drinks

With room 3 we measured out how much sugar is in different fizzy drinks.
After this we have decided it is more healthy to drink water or milk and keep these drinks for special occasions.

Making Toast

Breakfast is very important to start the day with before coming to school.
Toast is an easy breakfast to have. We had to work out the correct sequence to make toast correctly.
As you an see, we really enjoyed eating the toast. Remember to get an adult to help with using the toaster.

Washing our hands

This experiment with bread showed us what happens when we have germs on our hands and touch food. Always wash your hands after using the toilet and before you eat.

Milk in Schools

Every lunch time we have milk. It is very good for our teeth and bones.

School lunches

After the milk we have our sandwiches, this gives us energy for the afternoon.

                           Monarch Butterflies

Mrs O'Brien brought in a caterpillar from her garden. We watched over the weeks as the caterpillar got bigger and turned into a chrysalis and then one morning as we watched out emerged the butterfly

Learning words that we can read

Helen and Lakes show us how we can use letters to make words we are learning to read. Words are made up of letters.

                           Science Experiments

All the learners in rooms 1 to 7 completed different experiments. We had to think what might happen, observe and then describe what happened.
Look what happens when oil and water are mixed together. Do you know why?
